Volunteer Service to Your Church
A Volunteer is the "glue" that holds our Church together!
Service to one's church is a very important way in which a person can support his or her church in return for what this individual has received from the church in the way of religious and spiritual messages, inspiration, practical instruction, and even material provisions.
Unity of the Valley has a long history of volunteerism. We rely on volunteers to literally keep our church running.
As a member of the Unity of the Valley, or as a non-member who attends our services or enrolls in our classes, there are many ways to be of service to your Church. In service, you will learn to know your Church, and you will make many new friends. Volunteer service is a form of tithing - tithing of your time.
Call the office at (520) 625-5687, or sign up at our Sunday Worship Services, if you would like to serve the Church in any of the following categories:
"Serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul." (Deuteronomy 10:12)
Newsletter Editor. Addie Gregory has agreed to serve for as Newsletter Editor.
Sunday greeters and ushers. Our Church is looking for greeters and ushers at our Sunday Worship Services. Anyone who is able to stand for short periods of time is encouraged to sign up as a greeter or usher for our Sunday Services or for special events. There is a sign-up sheet on the back table at our Sunday Worship Services.
Service on Committees. The Unity Church of Green Valley needs volunteers to serve one or more of our various Standing Committees. This service is rewarding; it promotes friendship and a spirit of cooperation; and it is vital to managing, carrying out, and running of the many activities of our Church. Committees on which you can serve include:

Book Services Department. Our Book Services Department, which runs our Church's Bookstore (which will soon reopen in our New Church Building), is looking for volunteers to work in the cataloguing, filing, and ordering of books and other publications for our Church Classes and our Library. Those with some library experience will be especially helpful. Contact Rev. Guerette.
Choir. The commitment involves a one-hour Choir Rehearsal each Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. and participation in the hymns and special music of our Sunday Worship Services, 10:00 a.m. each week. The Choir is looking especially for sopranos and tenors, and any other person who can read music and sing four-part harmony. Contact Rev. Maurice Guerette or Mary Lou Catania, Choir Director.
Musicians: For those who play musical instruments, the commitment is the same as for Choir members. Those play instruments other than organ or piano must be able to bring their own instruments to the Rehearsals and Services. Contact Mary Lou Catania, Director, Music Department.
Volunteers for Special Events. Our Church needs volunteers to assist our Church in its participation in various special events held in Green Valley and Sahuarita. We need people to work with our Ways and Means Committee in:
Coordination with other churches or organizations (if any) participating in an event.
Assisting with publicity for the event.
Helping with sign-up sheets for the event.
Helping to set up for the event.
Helping to run the event.
Assisting in the collection of money for certain events.
Historian. Volunteering to serve as a Historian for the Unity Church of Green Valley can be especially rewarding, as well as very educational. This is a very significant contribution that one can make for his or her Church. We are looking for someone to help us continue the work of the late Dr. Dorothy I. Seaberg. Contact Rev. Guerette.
Teachers. Qualified teachers are sought to conduct classes in a variety of Unity topics. These are major commitments by those who would like to use their skills and experience to pass on to students of Unity the philosophy, principles, and teachings of the Unity Movement, as founded by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore and developed by such ministers and authors as Eric Butterworth, H. Emilie Cady, Emmet Fox, James Dillet Freeman, Mary Kupferle, Catherine Ponder, Marianne Williamson, and others. Contact Rev. Guerette, Minister and Chair, Education Committee.
We are also seeking teachers for the children in our upcoming Sunday School program, now that we have moved into our newly completed Church Building. Contact Dei Kruse if your would like to volunteer as a Sunday School teacher.
Staying active or becoming active again. What better way for a retired senior to remain active than to volunteer one's service to his or her church for several hours each week! Serving in our Church Office on weekdays or as an usher or greeter at our Sunday Worship Services will burn more calories than sitting around home. Active people usually live longer - and in better physical, mental, and emotional health than the inactive.
Volunteer service also makes one feel good. There is a definite spiritual reward that a person who serves his or her church receives. It is one of the best feelings that one can have. Try it. You will see what we mean.
"Serve ye the Lord. " (Joshua 24:14) "Serve Him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind." (I Chronicles 28:9)
