Tithing to Unity in the Valley
The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language defines Tithe as "A tenth part of one's annual income, either in kind or money, contributed voluntarily for charitable purposes or due as a tax for the support of the clergy or church."
And we read in the Bible, " ' Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in Mine house, and prove Me now herewith,' saith the Lord of Hosts, ' if I will not open you the windows of Heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.' " (Malachi 3:10)
Only your tithes and offerings support this Church. For this, we bless you.
"Of all that Thou shalt give me, I will surely give the tenth unto Thee." (Genesis 28:22)
Honor the Lord with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase."
(Proverbs 3:9)
Why tithe? Everyone should tithe to his or her Church or other source of his or her "spiritual food." Those whose home church is Unity in the Valley should tithe regularly to this Church.
The word "tithe" refers to one-tenth, or 10%, of one's annual income, contributed voluntarily to charitable organizations, especially to one's church or churches.
The act of tithing was established long ago in the Bible, most notably in Malachi 3:10, where God challenged his people to "prove me now herewith" (the only place in the Bible where the Lord asks us to prove Him correct). He asks His people to bring their tithes to the "storehouse," so that there may be food in God's house, and - asking us to prove Him correct - He promises to "open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
In other words, if we tithe to the Lord, He will reward us with a blessing - spiritual and material - that is so great, so vast, and so overflowing, that we shall not have enough room to receive it.
The percentage of 10 (i.e., 1/10, 0.1, or 10%) was firmly established in the Bible (including Malachi 3:10, Deuteronomy, and elsewhere) as a natural law of God, and those who tithe 10% (or more) of their income to their church will indeed prove the Lord correct and will receive untold rewards in return.
So . . . accept the challenge from the Lord. Figure out your total income and donate 1/10 of it to the Unity Church of Green Valley; and just watch your riches (of all types) multiply unbounded!
Caution: Of course, your tithes must be made voluntarily and freely, without a conscious or subconscious sense of loss or a feeling that "this money is now gone." These tithes must be thought of, and felt, to be a free exchange of treasures with God, with the true expectation that God, who is far greater than any of us, will reward you with far more than you can give (remember that you can never out-give God!).
It always works. The rewards may not appear overnight. But just keep up your tithing program and your faith in God's promise, as laid out in Malachi 3:10, and it is guaranteed that you will enter a permanent period of prosperity. As your income increases, your tithes must increase, and the rewards will increase further! It is a law that always works, as long as you accept it and participate willingly in the tithing program.
We will be interested in hearing about your rewarding experiences.
Unity in the Valley has copies of a very informative 15-page pamphlet, "Tithing Questions and Answers," available at no charge at our Church Office, by calling (520) 625-5687, or by attending our Sunday Worship Services.
"The tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's." (Leviticus 27:30)
May we suggest that you consider Unity in the Valley in your will? Many church and non-profit groups have become beneficiaries of welcome amounts of money, which is then used in the best interest of their organizations. When you write your will, we would appreciate your thinking of our church.
How much are you willing to tithe?
